Dragon Tree
20 x 20 inches
Mixed-media painting on canvas
Material: paper, personal ephemera, pattern paper, tissue, adhesive, acrylic and oil paint on canvas
Artist’s Notes:
When I got back into painting, I wanted to create some pieces as a legacy so my kids would be able to see that I was an actual artist, not just a "crafter" or a "designer". At the same time, we had left our tiny Brooklyn apartment and I actually had some wall space to fill at home, so I began thinking about what kind of art I would want to live with.
At the time, I was reading a bit about Biophilia - affinity of human beings with the natural world and started working on this piece. The cut paper that makes up the leaves I accidently left out in the rain and some natural textures appeared. These unexpected textures became an integral part of the work, symbolizing the organic connection I sought to capture.
